The February 18th Google homepage image shows a voltaic pile lighting up the Google logo, in celebration of Alessandro Volta’s birthday. As more zinc and copper disks are stacked in the pile, the voltage increases and activates more of the light bulbs. This illustrates one of the progenitors of the modern battery.
